Another great bench build...

The other day I posted on Patrick Edwards bench, which incorporates the best of all styles. Well this young fellow apparently saw the same video a while back and built himself a similar one.

You can see his build here. There is a video on the same page where he goes into great detail about his build. The future of woodworking looks bright...

My Shaker Bench Build...

I started this bench build around October 2011. In traditional terms, I was attracted to the variations of the Roubo, or the Shaker style. During this time I also purchased three books; "The Workbench" by Lon Schleining, "The Workbench Book" by Scott Landis, and "The Workbench Design Book" by Christopher Schwarz. All excellent books with lots of eye candy and ideas.

Ultimately, I took most of my cues from the Benchcrafted Shaker bench. You might say I deviated just a bit... as somewhere along the way it developed a nautical, Pirate Ship flavor.

For the most part, materials were left over from other projects… 3/4" paint grade maple plywood, poplar for the beaded face frame, poplar door frames and MDF beadboard panels.

For the top I decided to try the LVL route, wrapping the sides in maple. Benchcrafted Moxon vise for my end vise and a shop made leg vise using the Lee Valley Tail Vise Screw.
